About

Degrowth for Artists is a research project based on the principles of the Degrowth movement but applied to the logic of contemporary art. Through research and community-building efforts, we intend to provide tools and strategies which help the contemporary art context catch up with the urgent and critical moment that humanity is facing associated with the climate crisis.Shifting from a growth-oriented environment into post-growth practices entails reducing consumption habits and rebuilding core values. Contemporary art is a context which gives room for experimentation and can serve a role in facilitating this and helping create a vision for a post-growth society. By developing a toolbox, we aim to enable artists, curators, galleries and institutions to develop a conscious, collective, intentional commitment to significantly reducing production and consumption, finding alternatives to our current organisational models (economic or otherwise), and proactively transforming society.
